This is the official write up from today’s hard fought Third Annual F3 Summerville / Goosecreek Turkey Bowl.

The Wholly Cannolis and Too Hot Spots took the field to much enthusiasm and fanfare (not really but I did see a make shift wave on the side lines). Wholly Cannolis received first and after a couple of quick plays ran head first into a Wolverine who grabbed a pick 7 to get the Too Hot Spots on the board first. On their next possession The WCs were valiant in their attempt to get up the field and were saved from a second pick when Hot Spot dropped an overthrown pass. The THSs took over on downs and Hot Spot threw a deep ball to a streaking Wolverine and he took it all the way to the house. The THTs were up 14 – 0 quick but that motivated the WCs and they got their game back on track quickly.

Grits was a hard charger at QB and led his troops down the field in a hurry – after a short kick off by Cheetah. After gaining a couple of first downs – Old Flame showed what it means to be in the Respect brotherhood with a grab in traffic to earn the WCs their first TD.

The ensuing possession by the THSs saw some defensive shadiness going on. Cannoli standing close to the line of scrimmage was trying to listen in on the huddle of the THSs. The play was a design sweep play to run left with Hospice carrying the ball. Cannoli was dialed in and switched positions to the right. Old Hot Spot picked up on it quiclkly though and called an audible to himself on Kansas City Shuffle – they looked right and he ran left and took it to the house with Grits making a late dive trying to catch him. Damn that Hot Spot still has some wheels for an old guy!

The playing and scoring from there was a bit of blur but the WCs did score on a screen / play action pass to Chum who took it home to bring the score to 35-14 in favor of the THSs.

The two final scores for the THSs came courtesy of Drum Stick who took a mid range pass from Hot Spot and and tacked on a 25 yard run to score. And the final was an ESPN worthy one handed grab by High Stick as he went straight up the middle into the end zone. It looked like a drop but High Sticks hands were true and he capped a well played game.

FINAL SCORE: Too Hot Spots – 49, Wholly Cannolis – 14

Here are some highlights to recap:

Old Flames quick grab to put WCs on the board.
Wolverine – Pick 7 and long bomb score.
Chum – unchallenged run for WCs second score.
Cheetahs – diving score from the 2 yard line, and great early kick offs.
Drum Stick’s short out and sprint for score.
Grits – never say die leadership.
Chowda – friggin all over the field working hard!
High Sticks – ESPN grab to score.
Hot Spot – two scores, TD throw, two picks (another for the respect crowd)
Cannolis – hard charging rushes
Repo – keeping the THSs honest on the line with great D and a couple of good runs.
and wait for it……………………………………………………………

THE MVP: HOSPICE FOR THE RESPECT CROWD! A beast with not one but two picks to change the tempo of the game early! Also was a key outlet for short passes to get a couple first downs. This man who thought he was going to be the last pick – he wasn’t by the way – was a beast today. tracking on the ball and advancing it. His first interception was a thing of beauty as both he and Hot Spot were tracking in on the ball. He made a beautiful grab and Hot Spot set up the wall of pain for him. He almost scored taking a 25 yard return to the 2 yard line. Hats off to Hospice!

Team Rosters:

The Wholly Cannolis: Cannoli, Old Flame, Repo, Grits, Chum, and Chowda.

The Too Hot Spots: Hot Spot, Wolverine, Hospice, Cheetah, Drum Stick, and High Stick.

Thanks to all the men who played! We had a awesome morning of fellowship and football. MOST IMPORTANTLY – NO MAJOR INJURIES!

DISCLAIMER: 90% + of this recap is certain. No purposeful ambiguity was included but if I missed something please forgive me and add it below.
