Matriculation Season at the Jones

It has been 3 full moons since last I served as Q at the Jones.

The weather was milder than yesterday.  Still muggy.   I arrived 20 minutes early because I’m used to a 40 minute drive to North Charleston from my home in the Creek.   when you leave your house at 5:20am it only takes about 19 minutes to get to Danny Jones.   Oh well, the Q had time to run a couple of laps around the track and look at his weinke again.    The PAX started to roll in one by one.   First Dorothy Mantooth with the flag.   Dorothy started at the ditch a couple of months ago and he impressed me back then.  I saw that he’s been doing some co-Q’s down at the Jones recently and was impressed to read his backblast from Wednesday.   It sounded awful.   YHC had a plan to do something a little different.  A little more cardio heavy.   I wasn’t sure how the PAX would like it.   Would it be too easy?  The Jones has some athletic folks.   We would soon find out.

We were joined by a relatively new guy.   Tooth Fairy.   TF was wearing a Myrtle Beach mini marathon shirt, so I figured he’d possible enjoy what I had planned.  Then Heebee Jeebie shows, then Ghandhi.  We get started on the COP and Houdini appears out of nowwhere about halfway in.

The THANG:

Act I:

We matriculated via an Indigenous Peoples’ run to Park Circle (about half a mile away)

Once we arrive we split into two teams one team sprints clockwise the other sprints counterclockwise to the opposite end of the circle.   Losing team adds 5 reps to Q’s exercise of choice.  Team counter-clockwise wins the battle.   20 Hand release merkins for winners 25 for losers.

Run the circle two streets (1/3 of the way) Burpees X 10 on Q NO REST MOVE

Run the circle 1 street (1/6 of the way) Step Ups on park benches X 20 IC

Run the circle halfway (tricep dips on the bench x 20 on Q add 5 more to be mean)

RUN the circle 2 streets to get to sidewalk that leads to city building in middle of circle.   Once there Bear Crawl all the way there.  Such a long way.   Felt like about 50yards (I’m sure it was probably more like 40 feet).   Learned that Dorothy Mantooth does not like to bear crawl.  Other PAX execute jazz hands until the 6 is in.  Jail Break back to the circle.

 

Now indigenous run back to the AO (about half a mile).   During this time, I talk to the PAX a little.  I learn Houdini’s kid just matriculated from Kindergarten.  Good times.   It goes by too fast.   Learned that Gandhi knows a shortcut back to the AO.  Learned that all these guys can run.   Once back at the flag, Houdini has to exit,  recover for a moment then head to the block pile for a quick 2^nd act.

Move quickly to get a block then move quickly between exercises:

Pledge, Prayer, Devo: Jeremiah 31:31-34.  God’s new covenant prophecy in the book of Jeremiah explains how a faith that depended on the obedience of many for the benefit of the few was replaced by a relationship with God where the sacrifice of one meant ALL could know God within their own hearts.

 

Moleskin:  The idea today was to keep heart rates high and keep everyone moving.  The classic ‘string of pearls’ routine.  I hope the PAX felt challenged.  It’s always tough to know at the Jones where hard hitting studs are a dime a dozen!
