Devo:
- YHC shared a poem (lyrics to a song that the M has been playing recently) that stuck out to me as timely in this season of parenting a newborn. It is called, “I Asked the Lord” and has a neat back-story. The lyrics are as follows:
- 1. I asked the Lord that I might grow
In faith and love and every grace
Might more of His salvation know
And seek more earnestly His face2. Twas He who taught me thus to pray
And He I trust has answered prayer
But it has been in such a way
As almost drove me to despair3. I hoped that in some favored hour
At once He’d answer my request
And by His love’s constraining power
Subdue my sins and give me rest4. Instead of this He made me feel
The hidden evils of my heart
And let the angry powers of Hell
Assault my soul in every part5. Yea more with His own hand He seemed
Intent to aggravate my woe
Crossed all the fair designs I schemed,
Cast out my feelings, laid me low6. Lord why is this, I trembling cried
Wilt Thou pursue thy worm to death?
“Tis in this way” The Lord replied
“I answer prayer for grace and faith”7. “These inward trials I employ
From self and pride to set thee free
And break thy schemes of earthly joy
That thou mayest seek thy all in me,
That thou mayest seek thy all in me.” - For me, this was a healthy reminder that sometimes we don’t need God to help us carry out the plans we have made for ourselves. Sometimes we need God to humble us by frustrating our plans so that we won’t find our ultimate joy in them, but in him. As a good friend recently put it, “If your happiness is based on anything other than Jesus, that thing will eventually be taken away from you.”
Moleskin:
- With everyone feeling sluggish today after Tuesday’s workout, YHC was expecting some low scores on the fitness test. I was blown away to see that every single person beat their score from last time, even though we ran the mile slower this time (fastest mile today was 8:13). The PAX did an excellent job pushing themselves to keep going despite not feeling like it. Kudos to everyone!
