Weather:  75 Degrees 100% Humidity – THE INFERNO

Count:  6

COP:  SSH x 10 IC; Inferno Walk Through

The Thang:  The Inferno – The Ultimate Monthly Fitness Test.  Members of the PAX Complete a circuit of nine exercises consisting of Burpees, Oyster Table Pull Ups, WWI Sit-ups, Jump Squats, Carolina Dry Docks, Monkey Humpers, American Hammers, Mountain Climbers and Flutter Kicks.  The mode of transportation between each exercise station follows the sequence of bear crawl, crab crawl, lunge walk.  At the completion of the flutter kicks you run around the farm house returning to the Burpee station.  Rinse and repeat for 35 minutes.  The first round starts with 20 reps per exercise.  Each subsequent round the number of reps reduces by one.  All exercises are single count with the exception of American Hammers, Mountain Climbers and Flutter Kicks which are four count exercises.  Each PAX measures itself based on the number of complete cycles and exercises within the cycle.  For example if you complete two rounds and are working on your 18 burpees when time expires you would score a 2.0.  If you completed those burpees and were working on your pull-ups your score would be a 2.1.  Each exercise within the round is worth a .1.  Trust me – getting that  .1 at the Burpee station is a life changing event!

Mary:  No time.

Announcements, Pledge, Prayer

Mumble Chatter:  Six men showed up to face The Inferno in weather that was fitting for the name.  The humidity was excruciating and for a minute YHC truly believed The Inferno Took My Soul.  Amnesia popped his Inferno Cherry.  Major Dad acted as his wellness coach consistently instructing him on proper form for the various positions and reminding him to pace himself so he wouldn’t climax too soon as the sweat beaded up for another round of Monkey Humpers.  Amnesia, this may be something you want to remember/forget.  The choice is yours.  Grits came out one year later to see if his E2M lifestyle and running addiction would pay dividends against The Inferno – You bet your burpee ass it did!  So what were the August Inferno scores you ask:  Woody 3.3, Cold Cut 3.3, Amnesia 2.9, Microwave 4.2, Grits 4.0, Major Dad (Wellness Coach).  Microwave and Grits crushed the humidity like a boss.  See you next month suckers!  Woody

Namearama/Announcements/Pledge/Prayers

Naked Moleskin:  YHC was down and out the first half of the week missing F3 Monday and Wednesday.  Returning for the Q on Friday to dust off the cob webs was needed before heading out on vacation.  It was good to see Deliverance keeping the commitment – EZGO come home!  AC/DC let out a moan as if he was going into labor when YHC said grab some reflective gear.  At first YHC thought it was his lingering congestion making the string of pearls more difficult than expected until the impact of the humidity was realized by the PAX.  It was just what the Doctor ordered.  Meeting Downhill was a pleasure as well.  Deliverance had an involuntary reaction to put his hands against the parked patrol car during one of our exercise stops.  Are there some skeleton’s in that closet? Hold down the fort next week –  Woody is DR in the Mountains.

COP:  SSH x 20 IC; TTT x 10 IC; Don Quixote x 10 IC; IW x 10 IC; LBAC x 10 IC Fwd/Rev, OHC x 10 IC; Batwings x 10 IC;  Mosey

The Thang:  Dora 1,2,3 – Partner Up and complete the following exercises/reps between you and your partner alternating between performing said exercise and running around the farmhouse.  100 Burpees, 200 Merkins, 300 Air Squats

Mary:  WWII Sit Ups x 20; Freddie Mercury x 10 IC; Flutter Kicks x 20 IC

Naked Moleskin:  This beatdown completed the Woody trifecta for the week.  Amnesia remained strong as an FNG with three consecutive workouts.  Deliverance, Karolyi, BTB and Cheech were no shows.  However, Cheech did provide a message of encouragement to FNG Amnesia with an early morning “GO GET’M ”  text.  Based on Deliverance’s statement Wednesday “Now I remember why I don’t come to these things.” – he may have stopped coming again.

This workout has been performed numerous times but Friday’s was a real ball buster.  The heat and humidity were almost too much to overcome.  The time to complete the Dora was much slower than normal and the sweat pool was much greater than normal (except for Cold Cut whose sweat pool is always greater than normal).  YHC will admit that this beat down proved more challenging than originally anticipated.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.  And remember:  The Burpee is the Standard Exercise of Tectonic!  Are you Inferno Ready?

Stow Blocks

Mary:  WWI Sit-ups x 20; American Hammers x 10 IC; Flutter Kicks x 20 IC

Naked Moleskin:  FNG Amnesia returned for his second workout with Cheech in tow.  Unfortunately Karolyi’s return to the gloom was short lived with a no show on Wednesday after Monday’s reunion.  There was hope that Bob The Builder had turned over a new leaf and would once again become a pillar of stability at Tectonic.  Unfortunately, he must have been detained on the Pop-Tart aisle deliberating between frosted or unfrosted strawberry.  On the bright side, EZGO made a return and brought back a wayward brother – Deliverance – to the gloom.  Welcome Deliverance!

What about the work out?  It sucked and YHC is very proud of that.  An oldie but goodie – Just like Spinal Tap and when Tectonic goes to 11, it is one louder.  If you know, you know – all others go to you tube and search spinal tap this one goes to eleven.  The pecs were smoked, the triceps were smoked, the shoulders were smoked – THE PAX WAS SMOKED!

Mumble Chatter:  Deliverance –  “Now I know why I stopped coming to these things”

Naked Moleskin:  The mumble chatter was alive and well at Tectonic this morning.  The PAX learned a lot this morning.

  1.  The Burpee is the standard exercise of Tectonic.  Don’t ever forget that!
  2. Major Dad had all six lug nuts come loose on one wheel of his boat trailer Sunday after departing the Leeds Avenue boat ramp.  Was this an act of malicious behavior or a natural occurring phenomenon?  Enquiring minds want to know.  Major Dad claimed he was only telling this story once.  Enquiring minds want to know if this is true as well.  Scratch that – we already know that Major Dad can’t possible tell a story only one time.
  3. Bob The Builder celebrated his birthday and chose KFC for his birthday dinner.  I would’ve guessed Pop-Tarts.
  4. We had an FNG that couldn’t come close to remembering his age.  Welcome Amnesia!
  5. Karolyi returned after a very, very, very long sabbatical.  He couldn’t remember his nick name (maybe he should’ve been called Amnesia Reloaded). While telling us about himself he informed us that he was a gymnastics coach for 25 years.  This jogged the memory of the PAX and we reminded him that hew was previously nicknamed after the famous gymnastics coach Bela Karolyi (How many of you just had the image of him carrying Mary Lou Retton in his arms following her Olympic Vault? Be honest.)
  6. I have been a very bad boy and not published back blasts in a long time.  If you read this back blast, please give me a like and comment read on Facebook so I will be motivated to continue posting.  I would like to get at least 50 likes.

Tectonic: JUMP! RIP Eddie Van Halen

The Thang:  Tectonic Smoker (10 Burpees, Bear Crawl to Sidewalk, Run Around Triangle)

Pair up in order of Smoker Finish and prepare for a One on One Battle!

Burpee Battle:  One Minute of Burpees Starting with 10 Reps – rest period is remaining time left in minute after completion of reps.  Add one rep with each consecutive minute.  Last Man Standing = Wilma at 15

Merkin Battle: Multiples of 5

Wall Sit Battle:  For Time

Oyster Table Pull Up Battle:  Multiple of 5

Mary:  Flutter Kicks x 50 IC; WWI Situp x 20 on Q

Moleskin:  YHC brought the best of Van Halen for the PAX listening pleasure in memory of Eddie Van Halen.  The PAX also got their “JUMP” in with the Smoker and Burpee Battle.  YHC was hoping for higher numbers to create a “A-Team” vs “B-Team” competition but we went mano a mano instead.

Devo:  There has been a lot of mumble chatter recently in our region regarding the “Quality” of our work outs.  “Not as hard as they used to be!”  Blah, blah blah!  YHC designed the above workout to create competition and as a result have each member of the PAX push themselves to their fullest extent.  I’ve never been to an F3 BC where I didn’t have the opportunity to improve my physical fitness.  However, this is each individual man’s responsibility not the Q’s.  Do you focus on form?  Do you only do 19 reps OYO when the expectation is 20?  Do you give 100% on your cardio?  Do you work for the entire minute on EMOM work outs or stop at 5o seconds?  Let’s be honest with ourselves – we’ve all done it!  Let’s also be honest with ourselves on another point – most all of us are in better shape now than when we started.  The workouts don’t get easier, you get better!

September 2020: The Inferno

  • When: 20200914

2020-09-28 by Woody Leave a Comment

Weather:  Mid 70’s

COP – YHC verbally briefed the Pax through each stage of the Inferno, demonstrated each stage and had each Pax demonstrate the exercise. Mosey around farm house. Emphasized adhering to the standards and proper form.

THANG – The Inferno = Burpees, Pull-ups, WWW1Situps, Jump Squats, CDD, Monkey humpers, American Hammers, Mountain climbers, Flutter kicks, run around farm house. Start at 20 of each exercise, drop reps by 1 for each lap
between stations alternate bear crawl, crab walk, lunge walk. For Ruckers, the starting number is 10, all else remains the same.  Time limit of 35 minutes.

Mary – N/A

Count, Name, Announce, Pledge, Pray

Moleskin –  Five men showed up and PIMW at the Inferno.  You vs You!  Two members of the PAX reached a 4.0 and are knocking on the door of that 4.1.  YHC would like to put a challenge out to all of our inferno patrons.  Identify what part of the inferno is your Achilles Heel and put a personal plan in place to improve in this area for next month.  Is it the Burpees, then do more Burpees.  Is is your cardio, then start running more.  Is it the American Hammers, work on your core!  You and only you are in full control of your improvement.  Set a goal for next month to get a PR and make it happen.

Number beside your name is your score from today.

Wilma 3.6, Subzero 2.6, Spooky 3.2, Cold Cut 2.6, Woody 3.5
