The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: 60’s and perfect.

FNGs: None

COP:  SSH (IC) x25, TTT (IC) x15, LBAC (IC) x15

The Thang:

YHC has been using old weinkes during the month of July.  Most have been his own that he has tweaked slightly, but for today, he decided to find a weinke from exactly two years ago and do it with little modification.  He found one of Picasso’s from Seismic on 7/24/2017.  After warm-up, pax grabbed a block and came back to the flag for BACON:

  • Burpees – x5
  • American Hammer (IC) – x10
  • Curls for the Girls (IC) – x15
  • Overhead Press – x20
  • Nose Breakers (tricep extensions over your face while laying on back) – x25

Pax flipped the BACON and started back at Nose Breaker and worked their way back down.  After completing this, they moseyed to the back parking lot with their block, paired up, and completed a Doracide of 100 Merkins, 200 Squats with the Block, and 300 Block Presses.  The pax running did suicides to 3 different points in the parking lot.  At first stop, pax completed 1 Burpee, second stop 2 Burpees, and thirst stop 3 Burpees.  Teams finishing early helped slower teams and blocks were returned before Mary.  FYI – Burpees after block presses should be done with caution…  just saying.

Mary: Original BB did not have specifics on Johnny Cash Ring of Fire, so YHC did a Dollar Mary: 25 reps each of LBCs (IC), Reverse Crunches (IC), Freddy Mercury’s (IC), and Flutter Kicks (IC).

Pledge and COT

Announcements: Carnes workout starting on Tuesdays in August at 6 pm.  Need Qs for first 2 weeks.  Men’s hike 10/10-13: Interest Meeting 8/4 @1800 at the Den.  Prayer Requests for Dabo, M, and new 2.0.  Few Pax and Ms finishing up school and finding jobs.  Outhouse traveling over the next week.

Devo: YHC receives daily email from Ransomed Heart that has excerpts from their books.  Recent one was about how we “discipline” ourselves to fight our flesh, which we call our “quiet time”.  We feel obligated to do it as something we have to do and many times feel we have to do it a certain way.  But in doing this we miss out on the whole point of it.  It’s not all about academic study or scripture learning and we need to do whatever draws us closer to him.  It may be running/walking outside, journaling, or just listening to worship music in the solitude of our room.  But whatever we make our devotional life, it should be about connecting with Him.

Moleskin:   In researching old backblast from before YHC was a part of F3, he learned a lot of new stuff.  Like where Tabatas came from, that there was a Pax called Rabbit Ears (need to hear the story behind that one), that Wiper (who YHC has met but doesn’t post anymore) was REALLY fast, and that Pretzel actually ran into a flying goose while running at the Creek (which may explain why Pretzel doesn’t run at the Creek much anymore).  You learn a lot from stories from the past.  And the pax really enjoyed this workout so he may start looking for old weinkes more often.

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: Low 70’s

FNGs: None

COP:  SSH (IC) x20, TTT (IC) x15, T-Claps (IC) x20, jog around the building to the block pile

The Thang:

YHC had set up two sets of cones and tires, and once the 6 was in, split the pax into teams.  Each team would complete a round by each pax flipping the tire once between their sets of cones.  To “earn” the right to flip the tire, teams would pull a weinke from YHCs can.  Each pax would pick one of the 4 exercise to complete as long as all exercises on the weinke were completed.  Pax completed 4 rounds of flipping tires between the cones, starting with 10 reps and increasing by 10 reps each time (i.e. 40).

Teams finished about the same time and teams grabbed their blocks and moseyed over to the big dirt pile on the back of the property.  Pax lined up in their teams and ran 3 relays up the hill and back: Jailbreak, Bearcrawls and inchworms.  Time ran out and last 3 pax inchwormed up together.

Pledge and COT

Announcements: Father Day Convergence, Hot Pursuit, and Tournament of Champions on Saturday before father’s day.  4th of July convergence pushing for big GC/MC turnout.  2nd F at Hero’s Bar on Redbank tonight.

Devo: YHC heard the song, Reckless Love on the radio and it reminded him of God’s sense of humor and “hold my beer” actions.  This song was part of the Men’s Hike and YHC was leading worship one morning when all of the hikers were together.  The bridge of the song starts with “There’s no shadow you won’t light up…” and at that point the sun peaked over the mountain shining on everyone signing.  It couldn’t have been planned any better.  Sometimes we go through are lives, head down, just getting through the day.  We miss out on the amazing things that God has for us.

Moleskin:   During TTT, YHC instructed the Pax to make sure to stand up when doing the clap.  Saget immediately responded with “That’s how you get the clap” in which there was mumble chatter and applause from the other pax.  YHC immediately declared it the backblast title…

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: 70’s and humid

FNGs: None

COP:  SSH (IC) x20, T-Claps (IC) x20, TTT (IC) x10, jog the long way to the block pile

The Thang:

Pax grabbed a block and YHC explained Dirty Dora.

  • Dora Exercises
    • 50 Overhead Press (IC)
    • 100 Curls 4 the Girls (IC)
    • 150 LBCs (IC)
    • 200 Flutter Kicks (IC)
    • 250 Squats with the Block
    • 300 Calf Raises (IC)

Broke into 2 teams, one team doing the Dora Exercise and then other going to can of weinkes and completing the 4 exercises on the weinke.  The number of reps is based on the reps that the other group starts on.  (i.e. if team completing 150 LBCs, the other team is doing 15 reps of each exercise on the weinke).

Once team 2 completed, they took over the Dora exercise where Team 1 left off and Team 1 headed to the can. Rinse and Repeat until Dirty Dora is satisfied

Pax came up a little short, and with a couple minutes remaining, YHC led both teams in calf raises…

Mary: None needed.

Numberama: 12

Namerama: Saget, Mr Feeny, Brokeback, Tecmo, Weezer, Thumper, Tinder, Uga, Maybelline,  Outhouse, Cavalier, Olaf

Pledge and COT

Announcements: Q School Thursday after Accelerator at Doty.  Father’s Day Events (Convergence, Hot Pursuit, Tournament of Champions), 4th of July convergence.  Pray request for Saget’s Dad.

Devo: YHC talked about a tough discussion he had with his mother about having a plan and working at it. Reading a book on holiness and there is a heavy focus on motives.  In the end, we should have only 2 central motives: to love God and to love People.  Loving people isn’t always giving them what they want, being sweetly nice, or doing what you think is right…  It’s giving them what they needs.  Sometimes (like YHCs mom), a tough conversation is had to move things forward, get them living in fear, and providing a supporting hand to help them get what they need.

Moleskin: The Pax that attended the Memorial Day convergence with F3 Charleston remarked how tough it was and most exercises done in cadence.  YHC decided that was a good idea and the Pax were drained at the end.

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: 70s and humid

FNGs: None

COP:  SSH (IC) x20, Imperial Walkers (IC) x15, LBAC (OYO), long mosey to the block pile

The Thang:

YHC set up 6 stations, each with its own exercise.

  1. Curls 4 the Girls
  2. Squats with a Block
  3. Box Cutters
  4. Tricep Extensions
  5. 4 Count Lunges
  6. Flutter Kicks

Pax got in a line at the first station and started doing curls OYO.  Once the minimum number of reps were met, the first pax would move to the next station and complete the next exercise.  Remaining pax would stay at the first station, doing curls until it was their turn.  Pax would move 1 station at a time in turn, carrying their block and completing at least the minimum number of reps or more if the station in front of them was not empty.  First pax would get to station 6 and keep doing Flutter Kicks until the 6 was in and would reverse back through the ladder, with all pax following in the same order they ascended.  First round was all pax completing a minimum of 5 reps. Round 2, YHC split the pax into 2 groups but increased the number or reps to 10. For Round 3, the pax shuffled order, dropped their blocks, and complete 7 reps of Alternating Shoulder Taps, Monkey Humpers, Freddie Mercurys, Merkins, Calf Raises and LBCs.

Teams finished up together with 7 alternating shoulder taps right on time before stowing the blocks

Mary: Not needed

Pledge and COT

Announcements: Q School May 30th, Father’s Day activities (Convergence, Hot Pursuit, Tournament of Champions at Shortcake’s Farm), July 4th Convergence, prayer request for Cheddar’s Mom (eye surgery)

Devo: YHC brought up multiple current events where people expressing themselves on social media has caused issues.  It is frustrating because we are in America and have freedom of speech, but those that complain about intolerance are those that are the most intolerant.  People get their feelings hurt and feel justified to lash out and hurt back.  It turns into a While thinking and pray about these different situations, YHC was reminded of Micah 6:8.  The Message reads “But He’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what GOD is looking for in men and women.  It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself to seriously – take God seriously.”  It’s a good thing to take up a just cause, express yourself and fight for what you believe in.  No one can take that from you.  But in the end we need to make sure that we aren’t taking ourselves “too seriously” and taking our fight to the point where we aren’t showing grace, love and compassion.

Moleskin:   During “team” rounds, the Pax from opposite teams were actually completing the stations together before moving on and not making it a race.  Awesome to see them push each other and it will probably be a nice modification for the next time YHC pulls out this workout.

Devo: Eat the frog.  When you have a difficult conversation or undesirable task, do that first thing in your day rather than putting it off.  F3 is a great example of that, but there are many other things besides exercise that we tend to put off or ignore.

Moleskin:   Great work from the PAX today.  Saget showed up ready to ruck.  I thought he stuffed his pack with pillows, but when he let me take a cycle with the ruck, it really kicked my butt!  Much respect Saget!!  Otherwise, got a good workout and proud of the effort!

Pledge and COT

Announcements: Anniversary Party in January, multiple races over the next few months, Freedom Church Men’s Hike April 11-14:  Meetings will begin late January/February.  Prayer Requests for Uga’s family and accident involving FIA Lexington and all affected.

Devo: YHC referred to the 80’s classic 3 Amigos and described the scene when they are in the desert and Steve Martin and Martin Short had run out of water and were completely dehydrated.  They look over at Chevy Chase and he has water and is completely wasting it, finally throwing the half full canteen to the ground where the water spills out.  Chevy then proceeds to put on lip balm, notices the other 2 staring at him, and then offers “Lip Balm?”.  YHC had heard a friend’s sermon about this, and it has stuck with him in that we have something that gives life, but instead we offer people “lip balm”.  Going into the holidays, we give a lot of presents to our friends, family, Ms, and 2.0s, but is that what they really need?  He stressed that many times, our 2.0s want our time and instead of just gifts, it is important to make memories, because the gifts will eventually be outgrown or broken.  Cavalier and Mr. Feeny both shared things that they were doing with their family for Christmas that would make memories and not just be “lip balm”.

Moleskin:   Super 21s again monopolized the majority of the workout so YHC will rethink it again and determine better exercises so more time can be spent on the other rounds and fully do Lt. Dans…

Shake It Like You Mean It

2018-12-12 by Olaf Leave a Comment

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: 30-ish, frost all around

FNGs: None

COP:  SSH (IC) x10, Hillbillies (IC) x10, TTT (IC) x10, LBAC OYO, reverse run around the building to block pile to grab a block.

The Thang:

YHC planned a Usain Bolt and downloaded an app that would randomly select an exercise from a list he created.  The list included:

  • Curls 4 the Girls
  • Block Press
  • Overhead Press
  • Tricep Extensions
  • Upright Rows
  • Bent Over Rows
  • Flutter Kicks
  • X’s and O’s
  • American Hammers
  • WWI Sit-Ups
  • Freddy Mercury’s
  • Dips

Pax lined up on curb at the entrance and took turn’s shaking YHCs phone to get a random exercise.  The shaking Pax would then complete a “walk” to the center of the parking lot.  Rinse and Repeat for all Pax to complete the round.  Walking exercises changed per round:

  • Round 1: Walking Lunges
  • Round 2: Walking Sumo Squats
  • Round 3: Lt. Dans (Squat, 4 walking lunges)
  • Round 4: Run to the far end of the parking lot.

Mary: LBCs (IC) x25, Reverse Crunches (IC) x25

Announcements: Christmas Party tomorrow – 6 pm, bring a gift.  Parade Sunday at 2 pm – BOM around 1:45, Anniversary Party at Dorchester Yacht Club – details will be posted.  Prayer requests for Malachi, Wee Woo, and Wee Woo’s dad.  Also Harbaugh’s hammy.

Devo: YHC brought up recent event where oldest 2.0 was caught sneaking make-up to school and taking it off before being picked up.  YHC’s M was furious about it while YHC was a little more “level headed”.  He recognized that lying and deceitfulness was his M’s “trigger”, upsetting her a lot more than him.  One of YHC’s triggers is when his 2.0s don’t listen and react when he asks them to do something (aka lack of respect).  In thinking about why these were triggers, he realized that these triggers were most likely developed from negative events that had happened in the past.  His M being lied to, being deceived by people around her, and his own insecurities when he wasn’t respected by peers growing up.  YHC challenged the Pax to figure out their triggers, recognize them, and figure out how they can react differently the next time someone hits their trigger.

Moleskin:   YHC talked with Dabo earlier in the week about ideas for this workout and he mentioned upper body and core, so YHC put this workout together especially for him.  Unfortunately Dabo fartsacked, missing the workout, so his guns will be slightly underdeveloped this morning.  Please make sure to let him know this…

Devo:
Keep on Asking –

“And so I tell you, keep on asking and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Luke 11:9

The power of persistent prayer is incredible. Strength rises up in your voice as you continuously seek God’s answer to your prayers. Rest assured that He will always answer: through fulfillment of your prayer, a firm “no,” or by guiding your heart in a different direction, causing you to no longer seek the answer to that prayer. Go ahead and pray a specific prayer daily.

Moleskin:
A lots of mumble chatter about YHC cards being stacked. Even YHC had thought in the end that there was more than one deck but as we stow the blocks YHC checked his phone and we only missed 2 cards to complete the deck. Great job to all the pax!!

Conditions: Hot and kinda swampy with a side of Fire Ants

Warmpup: SSH in Cadence x 25

THE THANG:

The usual line of Pax divide by two and foot race to follow. Captains were named and swapped and Team 1 was cruising in the winners circle until the second round of excercises! A tie breaker was needed so another foot race occured. Team 1 luckily won the foot race again but i had a moment of weakness and allowed team 2 to name our next exercise. Horrible idea!!!! Stringbean was an old salt to this game and threw down eight count body builders with the block!! His words were, “I don’t care if we lose i just want them to suffer!” Of course we the eight counts were too much so we made an executive decision to do 6 count blockees instead. That round sucked the last bit of energy we had that round of exercises but seemed to empower Team 2 who ended up winning the round!

Devo: Love First

John 1:1-5

One of the hardest things to do in life sometimes is to love people, especially when they hate you. With the events happening over the weekend, it has been on my heart even more so to love people, even when those around you are showing hate. No matter of the person beside you, no matter your differences, no matter that you look different, love them. It’s ok to not have the same beliefs, ethnicity, values as the man beside you and still love them. Society tells us that if we disagree, or if we are different, then we must hate opposition, but that is not what the Bible teaches. First and foremost, we are to love others. Be love, show love, reciprocate love. Sowing and reaping is a valid principle, if you sow hate, you reap hate, but what if we sow love. The harder thing is love those that are talking about superiority, if we hate those people, we become the same. But we must love them too.

Moleskin: The men showed up, and so did the humidity. Note to self, when YHC asks someone to Demo, don’t request Chum to do so, 50 Squats later the demo was done. The mumble chatter started early when we only did 10 tclaps, YHC was even called “soft” however, once the 2 bricks were retrieved, the mumble chatter turned in to some groans. Good work in the humidity today, numbers are continuing to stay solid!
