The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: Moist from the rain from the day before, but slightly cooler than it has been over the last couple of weeks

FNGs: None

COP: SSH x 30 IC; TTT x 10 IC; Mountain Climbers x 15 IC; LBAC (forward & backward x10 IC), slow mosey around the parking lot.

The Thang:
After the warm-up, Pax gathered at the spot we normally do the Cardiac, and got the instructions for the Tabata’s being done during the workout…40 seconds of hard work, followed by 20 seconds of rest.  Here were the exercises done for each Tabata:
-Merkins
-Squats
-Wide Merkins
-LBCs
-Burpees

Began the Thang:
-Tabata #1
-Mosey to wiffle ball field the back way
-Tabata #2
-Mosey to the big baseballs at the front of the park
-Tabata #3
-Mosey to the parking lot closest to the baseballs
-Roundabout 7s w/ jump-squats and hand-release merkins (same idea as typical 7s, just running around the parking lot, and doing the exercises at each end of the oval, instead of running back and forth) – Had to cut this a little short to make sure we had time for Mary…but most people got close to finishing
-Mosey back to the flag, w/ the ruckers taking the lead

Announcements: Father’s Day Convergence will be on June 15 along w/ a social & fundraising event at Shortcake’s farm at 1pm.  Bring 2.0s to the workout, and bring 2.0s and Ms to the event at the farm. 4th of July Convergence at the Ditch…Bedrock will not be open that day.  LQ at Stalker’s house tonight.

Devo: Father’s Day may be a day to celebrate the one’s with us with kids, but use that day to be mindful of what it takes to be a good father, and then follow through with that throughout the year.

Moleskin:   Typically, the 2nd Thursday of the month is when the Cardiac (monthly fitness test) is held at Bedrock.  But this month, it has been moved to the end of the month as a part of Beast Week, so I was contractually obligated to NOT do the Cardiac.  So we did not do the Cardiac.  Any similarities that today’s workout had with the Cardiac were purely coincidental.  Also, shout-out to Wreck-It Ralph and DeFib as they ignored my disclaimer that today’s workout wasn’t the friendliest to ruckers, and they still did it w/ their rucks on most of the time.

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: Hot/Muggy

FNGs: None

COP: SSH x 30 IC; TTT x 10 IC; Mountain Climbers x 15 IC; LBAC (forward & backward OYO), slow mosey around the parking lot.

The Thang:
Each man grabs a cinder block, and then I divided the Pax into groups of 3 (though I had to have two groups of 4 due to having 17 Pax).  At all times during the workout, one member of your group will be carrying, one will be running, and one will be exercising.  The ‘carrying’ member will transport two cinder blocks around the dirt parking lot.  While he is doing that, another member of the team will be running sprints between the entrance of the dirt parking lot, and the light pole on the right.  The third member of the group will be performing an exercise.  Once the block carrier returns, trade places so that all members will go through a cycle of Carrying/Running/Exercising.  Once all members have completed the first exercise, they move onto the next.  The exercises were:
-Flutter Kicks w/ the block
-Blockees
-Overhead Press
-Curls for the Girls
And then we ran out of time.

Mary: 10 Burpees OYO in tribute to a broken cinder block; LBC x37 IC

Announcements: Father’s Day Convergence will be on June 15 along w/ an event at Shortcake’s farm at 1pm.  Bring 2.0s to the workout, and bring 2.0s and Ms to the event at the farm.

Devo: Even a day removed from Memorial Day, do not forget the purpose of the day…to honor the men/women that paid the ultimate price in service to our Nation.

Moleskin:   YHC really doesn’t like carrying cinder blocks.  I especially don’t like to carry two at a time.  But for some reason, I felt like we needed a workout that incorporated a lot of cinder block carrying.  Unfortunately, not all cinder blocks involved in the workout made it out alive.  We had one casualty, and we made sure to pay tribute with 10 burpees.  Hopefully all of the Pax got a good workout today so that the cinder block’s life wasn’t lost in vain.

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: Temps in the upper 60s, a bit muggy

FNGs: None

COP: SSH x 30 IC; TTT x 10 IC; Mountain Climbers x 15 IC; Indian Run (in 3 lines) to the baseballs at the entrance of the park and back to the flag.

The Thang:

Each man grabs a cinderblock and reassembles at the flag; YHC explain that I’ll be giving the Pax some individual choices about the exercises they can do…
-Decision #1 – 15 OH Press or 15 Triceps Extension (single count OYO)
-Decision #2 – 15 Curls for the Girls or 15 Bent-Over Rows (single count OYO)
-Decision #3 – 15 Chest Presses or 15 Dammits (single count OYO)
-Do a second set of the same three exercises you did above, 15x each single count OYO
-Mosey to the bridge
-Decision #4 – Bear-crawl or Crab-walk back and forth between bridge rails (2x)
-Decision #5 – 15 Decline Merkins or 15 Triceps Dips after crossing the road each time w/ whatever method you picked in #4 above.
-Mosey to wall…due to large turnout, had Pax split up between low wall and high wall.
-Decision #6 (low wall) – Box Jumps or Toe Taps (for one minute)
-Decision #7 (high wall) – People’s Chair or Plank w/ feet on wall (for one minute)
-After one minute, Pax switch walls and make a decision there.
-Mosey to far parking lot
-Decision #8 – Stayin’ Alives w/ choice of 3 burpees or 10 squats after returning to the start each time.
-Mosey back to the wall
-YHC now uses the Pax’s earlier choices against them.  They have to do the exercise they avoided in Decisions #6 & #7 for 90 seconds each.
-Mosey to bridge
-Pax must do the exercises/movements they avoided in Decisions #4 & #5…crossing the road 4x, and doing 10 reps of each of the exercises from Decision #5 each time.
-Ran out of time, so moseyed back to the circle and stowed the blocks

Devo: You face a lot of choices in life.  And often times, you don’t get the benefit of hindsight.  So if you make a decision and it turns out poorly due to circumstances that you could not have reasonably foreseen, then there’s no reason to beat yourself up over it.

Moleskin:   YHC was long overdue to start Qing, so after facilitating the Cardiac at Bedrock a couple of times, and after co-Qing w/ Sprinkles a couple of months ago, I finally stepped up w/ my first real solo Q.  The turnout by the Pax was amazing and forced YHC to have to modify the Weinke a bit due to our size.  Also, this Weinke had a lot of instructions for the Pax, so the large numbers worried me a bit, but I was able to cut through the mumble chatter and get everyone on the same page most of the time.  I didn’t quite get to everything on the Weinke due to time, but I feel like the Pax got their heartrate up and got a solid beatdown.  YHC learned quite a bit from this first solo Q, and I look forward to leading again soon.

Conditions: Mid 60’s beautiful.

FNGs: None

COP:

TTT IC x9

LBAC Forward- x11

            Reverse- x 13

The Thang:

YHC had a birthday Q all planned out. Our AO Q has a disdain for random odd numbers, and I thought I’d help with a little immersion therapy.

PAX drew exercises from the 2.0’s Gecko Easter Basket, and I used a random number generator from 0-30 until it hit an odd number.

Exercises included:

Bird Dog

Squat Thrusters

Waterfall Plank

Overhead Press

Flutter Kick

Dammits (Lots and lots of dammits)

Curls

LBACs

Jailbreak (#of ‘reps’ x10m) (To the playground and back)

Sumo Squats

Triceps Extensions

World War I Sit-ups (with a block)

Mary: Happy Birthday Pickle Pounders, with eye contact.

Announcements: Father’s Day Convergence- Details to come, GORUCK Charleston HTL this weekend.

Devo: none.

Moleskin:  It was awesome to lead these guys this morning. The randomness of the numbers really gets to you after a while, especially when you don’t share the number of reps with the PAX before you begin. Chum kept requesting some Mary, so with some quick thinking, it turned into singing happy birthday while doing pickle pounders in rhythm. Certainly the most interesting way its’ been sung to me.

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: Cold HIGH 30’S and the air was moist

FNGs: 1 Gandhi formerly known as Todd Adkison

COP:  TTT x 1o IC slow and steady.  At this time our FNG walked up and the disclaimer was given; Hillbillies x 10 IC slow and steady;  8 ct body builders on Q

The Thang:

Partner up.  We played a 1/4 mile catch me if you can.  While partner 2 began running backwards partner 1 did 1 burpee, 2 merkins, 3 squats and 4 WWI sit ups then sprint and catch up with partner.  Partner 2 did exercises partner 1 ran.  Rinse and repeat until reaching the entrance to the track.  Hold plank until the six was in.  Once six arrived Splinter ran to the car to get our FNG a pair of gloves.  While he was gone PAX did high knees and squats.  Once Splinter returned PAX ran to the block pile. Grab one block and follow YHC across street to the school parking lot.  There we ran through a deck of cards with the reps matching the number on the card and the exercises matching suit.

HEARTS-  CURLS FOR THE GIRLS

DIAMONDS-  TRICEP EXTENSIONS

CLUBS- FLUTTER KICKS

SPADES- numbered off.  When your number of came up do sprints through parking lot while rest of PAX did exercise in circle.  (exercises were: Burpee, merkins, squats, WWI sit ups)

JOKER 1-  5 8 COUNT BODY BUILDERS

JOKER 2- SLOW JOG AROUND PARKING LOT AS A GROUP

All 54 cards were executed.

Cusack blocks back to block pile.  Line up on side line of football field and jail break across field to other side line.  Do 5 burpees and return to other side line and execute 5 burpees.  Find the six and finish with him.

Mary:  Asked Splinter to take the Q on Mary because YHC failed to plan one.

Low Plank; American Hammer, Marge and Homer

Numberama: 10

Namerama: Yo Adrian (Respect), Prius (Respect), Major Dad (Respect), Lottalove, Splinter, Magic Mike, High Stick, Joystick, Gandhi (FNG)

Announcements: Anniversary convergence 7a at Faultline next Saturday.  Anniversary party at The Ponds at 430.  Mud Run coming up in May.  Sign ups go live in a week or so.  Don’t sign up under Mud Run sign up under F3.  Don’t worry about partners yet just sign up and pay dues.

Devo: Matthew 8:10. When struggles happen in your life give it to the Lord and trust him with your problems asking him for help and believing he will provide.

Major Dad shared story of daughter who has a sign hanging in her room that says “Give it to God and go to sleep”.

Moleskin:   It was a cold morning but we got moving quickly and warmed up as best we could.  While working through the deck of cards we had a visitor.  Gentleman had a vocabulary that would amaze our own FNA.  During one set of curls for the girls he asked Magic Mike for his block.  Magic Mike obliged and YHC ran through disclaimer again to which he responded “Don’t stop for me.  Anything you can do I can do”.  We asked him to join us but he didn’t take the bait.  Maybe soon he will return.  He already has a name if he returns given by Major Dad.  We will call him F-Bomb.  Always a pleasure to lead the men of The Jones.  Welcome our newest brother Gandhi formerly known as Todd Adkison.  Gandhi has visited over 70 countries and enjoys doing yoga and running for fitness.  Welcome!!

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: Cool crisp morning at The Jones with the sprinklers on.

FNGs: Houdini, Nate Johnson

Called an audible for today’s workout after finding out on Thursday that a former football teammate and Citadel brother passed away.

Mike “Trez” Jackson

#30 Mike “Trez” Jackson (Father, Friend, Army Ranger, Citadel Grad, Teammate) left a legacy of having a great attitude no matter what situation he faced. The goal of this workout was to emulate that attitude no matter how tough the workout got!  And the Pax did that and more!

The pax went through a series of football drills with reps of 30 to honor Trez!

COP:  LBAC forward & reverse 30-60 seconds OYO / TTT IC 10x’s / DQ IC 10’s

10 Up-downs between each warmup exercise for a total of 30 Up-downs OQ.

The Thang:

3 sets of Stadiums to get the legs loosened up.

Drill – Football Mirror Drills 30 Seconds x3 – Pax started chopping their feet in place and mirrored Q moving left to right and hitting the ground.

Trez was a defensive back. As a defensive back it’s important to be able to move and react to your opponent.

Drill – 30 yard Karioki, 50 yeard Backpedal, 30 yard Karioki, 50 yard Sprint – Pax started on goal line to start karioki. Once they got to 30-yard line they backpedaled from one sideline to the other then completed another 30 yards of karioki then sprinted from one sideline to the next.

Having loose hips is vital to being able to change direction in football and as a defensive back being able to smoothly backpedal was a key to success.

Drill – Huddle Up & 30 Yard Route Tree And Touchdown – Pax ran 4 basic football routes, simulated catching the ball and finished by turning upfield and sprinting across the goal line then jogging back to the huddle. 60+ yards of running each time.

Pax ran route #’s 2, 4, 5 & 8

     Routes Ran: Quick Slant (2), 10-yard button hook (4), 15-yard post (8) and 10-yard out         route (5).

Prior to running each route the Pax huddled up as a group and did 5 group squats for           a total of 30 squats.

Mosey over to the block pile where each man grabbed a cinderblock.

3 Sets of stadiums with blocks. Mosey back to the football field.

Drill- Blocking Drill with Cynder Blocks 3x’s – Pax get their feet chopping and on command pressed cinderblock out like they were blocking someone holding for a minimum of 10 seconds.

Drill- 30 Yard Blockicides – Starting at goal line you do 1 Blockee, Lunge 10 yards do one blockee, turnaround and bear-crawl back to goal line with your block.  Repeat this to the 20 and 30 yard line. Increasing the number of blockees each time ( 2 at the 20 yardline, 3 at the 30 yardline).

This drill was a game changer! Members of the Pax that ran before regretted it and members that thought about running afterward decided not to do so.  Q was going to call an audible and have pax sprint last 30 yards, instead of bear-crawling but decided to finish.

Drill- Goal Post Pull-Ups & Cross – 3 Pull Ups then make your way across goal post and end with 3 pull-ups. (Modified: 10 Pull-ups on each end of the goal post) Click to see what it looked like minus the pull-ups

Considered calling another audible on this drill due to 2 things.

#1 Concern that the Pax would tear down the goal post. And since F3 does not exist on paper the rec department would not have anyone to send the bill to.

#2 Underestimating the will and determination to get the drill done!

Glad we went forward with it because the men crushed it. We worked together to make sure everyone completed the drill. Couldn’t be prouder of all the men.

Stow blocks 80 yards- CUSAK

Mary: Partner Up!

-Alternating Stand-Ups OYO- 15 reps each – Help your partner off the ground 15 times alternating never letting the partner’s hand go.

In football and in life you will be knocked down a lot. Having someone there to help you get back up can mean everything. (Note: Q almost splash merloted during this.)

WWI Mountain Climbers OYO– 15 each total of 30 – One partner is on 6 doing WW1 situps, while other partner is holding his feet down and doing mountain climbers until partner is done.

30 Plank Partner Punches OYO

Group Squat OQ 30 for Trez

Numberama: 10

Namerama: Chum, Prius (Respect), Sakrete, Houdini, Joystick, High Stick, Grits (Respect), Quaker (Respect), Yo Adrian (Respect), Greenbags

Pledge, COT, Announcements

Devo: Reinforced the power of having a great attitude. Trez will always be known for that. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

Moleskin:   This was a tough workout and the Pax executed it beautifully today. They helped honor Trez by giving their all while having a great attitude.

Mumble Chatter Shatterer Exercises from today: Minus the warmup…All of them!!! Seriously, mumble chatter consisted mainly between exercises but here are the top 3 IMO –

#1 30 Yard Blockicides

#2 30 Second Blocking Drills

#3 Alternating Partner Ups (Mary)

Leadership Lesson – Don’t underestimate what your team is willing to do. Men are here to be challenged.  If they wanted easy they would have stayed at home.  Even if they are unable to do it as you draw it up they will give their best and their brothers will help them finish the drill.  Looking at several of the exercises I was initially concerned that the men wouldn’t want to attempt them but they proved my concerns wrong! They all inspired me today.

Devo: YHC personal weight loss testimony praising the greatness that is F3!  Trust the process fellas.

Moleskin:   YHC was originally scheduled to Q on Saturday on account of it being my actual birthday.  With the ruck for hunger all AOs were shut down so I picked up my first Q at The Jones!   Shortly after picking up the Q I got a message from one of our newer guys, Joystick, inquiring about doing spider man push-ups.  YHC wasn’t coordinated enough to execute but they were done.  During the 86 squats the mumble chatter consisted of “what are you doing??” “Who let Sakrete Q?”.  We did 86 pickle pounders throughout honoring my birth year.  Welcome FNG Doc Brown!  Great work by all!!  Those of you who haven’t made it out to The Jones yet, make it a priority!
