  • YHC was feeling the pain this morning after being out of pocket with two young boys at home for the past couple years. Trying to get back into the gloom more now that they are sleeping through the night and since the workout time has been switched back from 5am to 6am. The Pax were gracious with my need to break up many of the exercises into groups of 5 or 10 reps at a time to get the full count completed.  I picked up this Q slot late last night and opted to recycle a previous workout for simplicity, but forgot that it was originally a Saturday (60 minute) workout. Realizing that made us all feel a little bit better about not finishing the whole pyramid, let alone having time for Mary. Good effort by all!

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: low 70s, clear, dry

FNGs: none

COP: TTT 10x IC, LBAC F&R 15 IC, SSH 20 IC

Thang:

Besides the first lap and the 8th or 9th being Indian runs, all 12 laps (3 miles) were OYO or one PAX would pace the group. Faster PAX would plank until 6 was in. Then we lifted things and put them down and other fun stuff in between laps:

  1. 20 OHP on Q
  2. 20 CFTG on Q
  3. 10 Merkins IC
  4. 10 Derkins (with block) IC
  5. 10 Irkins (with block) IC
  6. 15 kbell swings on Q
  7. 10 Burpees OYO
  8. 10 Box Cutters IC
  9. 20 FK IC
  10. 10 uneven merkins R&L OYO

We were running out of time so Q calls audible, instead of doing a bear crawl suicide our last lap would begin with a 20m(ish) bear crawl followed by the infamous Sakrete Shuffle. RECOVER RECOVER. Stow blocks and circle up.

Devo:

Proverbs 16:9 – “the mind of man plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps” – We can plan all we want to, but no amount of planning will keep you from controlling the uncontrollable.

Thank you Sakrete for leading us in prayer.

Moleskin:

This was DMT’s first Saturday Q ever, to top it off was the most PAX DMT has had the pleasure of leading in a workout. The laps provided for a good amount of mumble chatter along with the planking waiting for our 6. Everyone gave a great push and made the 3 mile mark for running, and all exercises were done with minimal groaning 🙂

A few men raised up and asked for prayer requests/thoughts/good vibes – They will remain nameless, but all nine men there know who they are. Here’s to hoping you all are able to deal with your challenges/daemons/goals and will come out on top a better man no matter how long it takes to complete.

Mosey around the Jones complex

Pick a parking space line: Lateral Hops for 2 minutes, 20 sec slow and 10 sec fast AMRAP and rinse and repeat until 2 minutes is done. Then walk it out 12 parking spaces and back.

Stride it out 12 parking spaces and stride it out back.

Karaoke the length of 12 parking spaces and Karaoke back

Backwards run 12 parking spaces and Backwards run back

Defensive slide drill! 6 Cones were set every two parking spaces. Hands up and butt down and lateral slide right until line ends (~40ft) then advance forward to the next line with a cone then lateral slide left and rinse and repeat until we lateral slides at the last line with a cone

Take another Mosey around the Jones complex.

Escalator Exercise with the unnamed squat. At Magnitude we’ve been calling them Fia Squats because we saw them doing it and when we tried it we thought they were terrible. Suggested names today were Sumo Ballerina Squats, We hate you Defib squats, Sumo Queef Squats (=SUCK!!!). It’s an IC squat down with both feet on the ground but when you come up one leg goes up and to the side, then down on two feet and then the other leg goes up and out  on the hard count in cadence. We had 6 cones, start at one rep at the first cone then increase reps by one at the next cone ie 1 rep, 2 reps, 3 reps, 4 reps, etc. we added up going up the cones and coming down the cones and finished with 11 reps at the last cone.

Take another Mosey around the Jones Complex

then Suicides or as we prefer to call them, STAYING ALIVES! Using the 6 cones.

Lateral hops right leg 10 IC
Lateral hops left leg 10 IC

Prayers that people stay healthy, prayers that people get health, prayers that people make smart choices to help prevent the spread of this virus as best we can.

Moleskin:

I set rules for this BC:

1. Don’t touch each other

2. Don’t share coupons

3. Don’t touch the ground with our hands

So it was a leg heavy day! Those Sumo Queef Squats (SQS’s) are a burner! I did not liking taking the stairs to get up the second floor just now 😂😅😭. Charleston has closed recreation facilities. No one was there monitoring but we still stayed off the field and track. We got a lot of work done in the parking lot and the complex has a side walk that goes around it. And the streets were mostly quiet so we could even run on the streets. It was probably a little over kill with me not wanting to touch the ground. Safety was my first merit badge and we still don’t know how long the virus can survive on surfaces. It would probably be fine. Just DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE!!!! (DOT added DON’T TOUCH OTHER PEOPLES FACES EITHER!) It was great to see DOT, Stringbean and HBB! Great job Men!

Devo: YHC did not have a devo planned but boy did Splinter.  Sometimes in life we are just forced to be quiet and let the smarter ones speak

We as men tend to recluse ourselves when going through tough times, depression or other struggles. We go dark and sometimes never recover from it fully, if at all. Remember that reaching out and sharing your burdens is how we are meant to live. We can’t carry struggles alone, but when you reach out to a brother that burden becomes easier to carry. For these same reasons we as men need to be more self aware and recognize when one of our own are silent…odds are they need you.

Moleskin:   I have a special place in my heart for The Jones.  I was there for the launch.  I was there during the beginning weeks.  I was the founder of the BJDD (Bedrock Jones Double Down).  I even recruited a couple crazies to do that with me.   After being named AO Q of Bedrock my participation at the Jones decreased.  Then became almost non existent when my wife got pregnant and then had our little girl.  I like the 0500 start time.  It has killed the BJDD essentially but I think more guys will be able to get down there and then get back for work and what not on the other side of town.  I highly encourage you guys to make a trip down.  Its a wonderful AO with a ton of opportunities.  They have showers on site.  It was a pleasure to be back in the middle of the circle with these men!  Thanks for letting me lead!

12 Days of Ruckmas Workout

If you’re looking for some weirdo fun this holiday season, get some friends or your Ruck Club together and tackle this workout together.

12 Days of Ruckmas

This workout is to be performed in the order of, and while singing the workout to the tune of, the 12 Days of Christmas. And, yes, that means you follow the pattern of day 1, day 2-1, day 3-2-1, day 4-3-2-1, etc.

The workout should be with ruck-on or being held for all movements except #6 and #9.

The workout (and song lyrics) are as follows:

On the ___ day of Christmas, Saint Bomber gave to me…
1 Push-up with your heavy ruck on.

2 Simple Squats.
3 Overhead Presses.
4 Man-makers.
5 Foooouuuurrrrr Count flutter kicks.
6 Body weight push-ups.
7 Rucks a thrusting.
8 Front hold lunges.
9 Standard sit-ups.
10 Rucks a curling.
11 Mountain Climbers.
12 Monkey F*ers.

My apologies to the PAX because I didn’t have us sing along with the workout 😅 . We made it to day 12 but called time after the curls.

Prayers for Wreck It Ralph as he embarks on the journey this weekend that few will pursue and even fewer will complete: the GORUCK HTL . Though both physically and mentally demanding and just down right hard, it is an incredible experience. Enduring the events doesn’t sum up the difficulty he has put himself through.  The hours, days, weeks, and months of training have been endured (and possibly enjoyed) By Wreck It Ralph to prepare him for this weekend. It’s no easy feat to get to this point of preparation.  Godspeed Brother!

Our Continued prayers for Underhand, as he continues his battle with stage 4 melanoma skin cancer.

Prayers for the people of the Bahamas and those affected by Hurricane Dorian.

Devo:

Psalm 31:14 But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, “You are my God”.

Though it was difficult, I have come to terms that I am not ultimately in charge of my future. The Universe and the things in it were created by something immense and amazing; and it wasn’t me or mankind that made it. It is by some Devine plan that things have been created and things occur. But that’s not to say we have no room to act; anything with mass produced gravity or an effect. We can have an effect on us and the things and people around us. So we can make plans and train for events, but things can happen. We can get sick; we can get injured; We can’t always make it to the event that we’ve had our heats set on for almost an entire year. Something just aren’t meant to be at that point in time. And if the Being  who created the universe and all the things in it thinks it’s not mine time do something, I’m okay with that. 🙏

Moleskin:

It was great to see so many PAX at Magnitude this morning! It was great to take the lead again. I still have a hard time saying “the next exercise is” and I appreciate the PAX remind me which exercise we were on 😅🙏.  I have had an exceptional recovery from my knee arthroscopy surgery 17 days ago. I frequently thank God throughout my day for how well I am doing. Over the last months, I’ve had a hard time. I missed being out in the gloom with my brothers, I spent most days limping, there were days I was on crutches because my knee hurt that bad, and there were actually times I had to crawl across a room because my knee hurt too bad to limp and I didn’t have the crutches with me. My wife didn’t understand why I’d still smile or think that the surgery would somehow work this miracle where I’d get back to how I was physically. And truthfully, if you saw me regularly, you would say the same things. Surgery was 8/30/2019, the doctor checked out the area, cleaned up one spots and removed a “butterbean” sized floater, which was the bony car tissue I broke off and kept getting jammed in my knee joint. I started posting again 9/9/2019, 10 days post op and felt well and by Thursday, 13 days post op, when Waldo had us doing 11’s around the upper parking lot with Burpees and Jump squats, I felt so good! (Minus feeling exhausted from working out) but by the end I was almost 2 laps ahead of everyone! It’s really just incredible. I prayed about it and here I am. 🙏 I am thankful to be back. I thought it was fitting to do a God-related workout 😄

“It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare.
It is in light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics.
There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nationals, cultures, arts, civilizations – these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat.
But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit – immortal horrors or everlasting splendors. Next to the Blessed Sacrament itself, your neighbor is the holiest object presented to your senses.”
