Conditions: less humid

FNGs: None

COP: Squats x20, TTT x10, Imperial Walker x20, LBACs forward and backward

The Thang:

PAX got a partner and grabbed a block and headed to the field where the fun got started.

PAX lined up and YHC explained the BOMBS workout. one partner performed the exercises and the other partner did 100 yard suicides down the field.

50-blockees

100-OHP

150-merkins (hand release)

200-Big boy situps

250-squats with the block

Mary: No time

numberama, namarama, pledge, prayer requests, prayer

Devo: YHC talked about being intentional with our relationship with God, being intentional with our relationships in our homes with our wives and children, and being intentional at work. YHC talked about Ophelia bringing up the word Abide and how he was leaning in on that word throughout the year, and YHC has been using discipline. YHC talked about how difficult discipline can be and we beat ourselves up when we fail. Part of being a leader means being intentional with our character when leading others.

Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Mission: F3’s mission is to plant small workout groups that are free of charge to all men. We improve fitness and leadership in the community through regular scheduled workout groups where participants rotate leadership.
Conditions: Absolutely Dreadful

COP: 20xSSH, 10xTTT, 15xImperial Walker, 15xDon Quixote

PAX were introduced to Sally, AKA Flower by Moby. PAX were instructed to listen to song and perform squats when words “bring sally down” and up when words “bring sally up” and hold at certain times in the song.

PAX formed single file and lunge walked to the basketball court and lined up on the sideline opposite of the cards that were lined up ready to be picked up by the PAX.

The Thang:

PAX went one at a time and bear crawled to cards, pick any card, and lunge walk back to the PAX who held plank at times, and held squats down at times.

The following exercises were completed:

30- 4 count alternating lunges, 20-bobby hurleys, 40-4 count flutter kicks, 40-4 count lbcs (twice), 140 sec wall sit, 10 each side-Nolan ryan, a lot-squats, a lot-wide squats, and 140 sec-plank hold.

11 burpees for the train. YHC ran out of time for the 22 burpees that the PAX owed to the trains.

COT:

Pledge, announcements, prayer requests, prayer

DEVO:

YHC asked for prayers about two couples that are close friends of his that are nearing divorce, as the military has taken them away from their families and their careers. YHC continues to pray for these couples and talked to the PAX about love and how 1 Corinthians 13 talks about how love endures, as well as how we need three things in our marriage and in our individual lives: faith, hope, and love. YHC’s friends struggle with faith and place value on their “stuff” and continue to wonder how they have everything and still are not happy. God loves us and is faithful to us no matter what, and we have to make our marriages a priority all the time, and not give up on our spouses. YHC continues to talk about importance of having someone to talk to about anything that causes anxiety or depression. Reach out to your fellow PAX, and  don’t do life alone!

Intro: YHC took the Q and had prepared a good work out. Showed up in pain and tired from this 10,000 challenge we are doing. So sore but this work out was what I needed. Also met EBERT from Lexington SC so did not want to disappoint our guest.

Weather: 70s and cool , good morning for a work out.

FNGs:  none

Disclaimer given by YHC

warm-up: Donkoete IC x 15, TTT x15, arm circles OYO, SSH X 15.

The Thang:

Wanted to warm up some sore muscles so we started with Air chair with a hand clap x 15 On Q. a lot of mumble chatter going on during this but a good leg work out.

moved in the upper body warm up ATM’s, Alt shoulder taps On Q x 15 to 10 slow merkins on Q , to 10 fast merkins, did this 4 times.

then to the AL Gore on Q – held down postion 10-20 secs x 15

the YHC instructed the PAX to team up and grab 1 block per team ( trying to confuse them ). problem is that YHC didn’t have a partner so really sucked for me.

We mozied to the BB court and circled up. warming the core up we passed the blocks picking it up from the ground at our side and pulling block to our chest and sitting it back down beside us passing to next PAX member. Completed about 5 lifts each and changed directions.

At completion of that moved all blocks to one side of BB court.

did some Bear Claw 1-2-3 with a slight modification.  teams had to complete 200 merkins, 200 LBCs , and 300 squats.  As one team member would start to work on that number the other had to bear crawl to the blocks we had set on the other side of the court.  When he got there he would carry a block around the tennis court john cosac style. when the member got back to the starting position he would bear crawl back to his team mate and pick up where he left off.

MARY:  always save time for mary .  we did ;

boat /canoe- on Q 10 reps, Q would call out boat or canoe and Pax would hold a boat position legs out 6 inches sitting up arms out, and canoe which is same seated position and pulling knees to chest and wrapping arms around them.

then we did LBCs x 15 IC

then Hello DOLLY x 15 legs 6inchs on back spread them wide , then bring them in and lift both legs straight up.

then (Summerville calls them thors) I call them American hammer + 1 big boy sit up. x 4 rounds with out stopping do 4 count American hammers and transition to 1 big boy sit up.

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Conditions: mid-60s and MUGGY (but to quote Blind Melon, no rain)

FNGs: None

COP:  21 SSH in cadence, 15 TTT in cadence, LBAC forward and backward OYO

The Thang:

This is where it gets interesting. YHC had planned an epic 4-corners beatdown on the tennis courts spending some good quality time getting intimate with our buddies, the blocks. The PAX numbered off into 4 groups and were instructed to mosey to the block pile, grab one of their choosing and meet me on the tennis courts.

As the first PAX began to reach the coupon store, we quickly realized we had a problem. Not a single block. Not  single pole. Even the fire hoses were gone. Only the tires were left.

Lesson: If you are the Q, show up early (which YHC did) and evaluate the AO (which YHC did NOT do). Otherwise you are left to adjust on the fly. Those 20 minutes I spent stretching could have been useful in replanning the workout.

Thanks to some quick thinking by TKO, we began with a jog to the park about a quarter mile away to buy some time. We know there’s some equipment there we can utilize.

Upon arriving at the park, the PAX were instructed to separate into their four groups and report to one of four stations for a modified four corners workout.

Station 1: Monkey bars and attempted 20 pullups (or to exhaustion)

Station 2: 20 4-count LBC’s (some groups modified into Freddie Mercuries, v-ups, etc) but all PAX hit the core in some way.

Station 3: 20 step-ups alternating legs (some counting up, some counting down, some bilingual counting with some help from Ophelia)

Station 4: Atomic pushups – feet in the swings for 20 merkins. Some PAX modified into crunch merkins (pull the knees in first, then the merkin.

After about 3,5 rounds, we moseyed back to the flag.

All-in-all, today was a very flexible workout at the ditch. But we did work and shed some sweat.

Devo: From Goliath Must Die by Louie Giglio: Every day, the Israelites were greeted by a giant taunting them. Each night the ended the day the same way. Quite demoralizing. What giant do you have in your life that taunts you daily causing you to live in fear, causing anxiety, causing worry?

Is it because you grew up in an environment where fear was real? Is it a mistake that you made in your life causing a cloud to hang over you constantly?

Fear can be a giant that constantly beats you down keeping you from being what God intended. But the good news is that giant (whatever it may be) has already been beaten. Not by any strength of our own, but by God through Jesus. Don’t let that giant discourage you. Don’t let it limit you or convince you you’re less than who you are.

Live life with the power that comes from knowing that it has already been beaten and no longer holds any power over you.

Moleskin:   In my first Q at The Ditch (my first Q at any BC), I definitely learned a lesson. Bring two plans in case your coupons go on strike. And I really appreciate the help of those that helped me process quickly and modify the planned Q. And thanks to all the men that showed up for bearing with me as we figured it out together. It was really a group effort this morning.

Also, my wife is convinced that one of you guys did this as a prank for the first-time Q. If that’s the case, I say well done to anyone involved. Hauling off all those blocks and poles in the name of a prank is a LOT of effort. And I think the joke may be on you.

Thang

Mosey to the pile and get two blocks per man.  Line up along the side of the basketball court.  I instructed the PAX that we will run through a sequence of four exercises.

  • Blockies X 7 (On Q)
  • Curls for the Girls X 14 (In Cadence with one block)
  • Block Dammits X 14 (On Q) these turned out to be WWI situps with a block because I didn’t know what I was doing.
  • Abyss Merkins X 7 (On Q) with the Pax using two blocks to get a nice deep merkin.

Upon completion of the round, PAX will grab their two blocks and farmers carry around the tennis court and return.   Also there would be a special surprise multiplier thrown in by the Q at random.   So the exercise could be 2X or 3X as many reps.    We started off with 21 blockies right off the bat to start the party.

All of this seemed perfectly reasonable when I wrote it down, but it sucked in execution.  YHC was having a tough time with this workout, but I saw plenty of others modifying as well.  So I took that as a good sign that the suck level was sufficient.  At one point during the routine I decided to forgo the farmers carry and do a jog around the entire AO to avoid passing out.

Some nice american hammers, some lovely flutter kicks, and some delightful LBCs.

Prayers/Pledge/Devo:  Long have I yearned to give a devotional from the book of Lamentations.

“The steadfast love of the lord never ceases.  His mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness ‘The Lord is my portion’ says my soul ‘therefore I will hope in him”    Lamentations 3:22-24

Why bring this up?   Recently I took an inventory of the assets in my life, not just the material possessions but my health, my quality of life, my time with my family, my happiness in my job, etc… I had to do these things because I was faced with a decision of what it would take for me to move out of town for a job.  It was an interesting thing to have to go through.  But I realized that I had comfort in my gratitude to the Lord that gave me peace that I wouldn’t have felt otherwise.  Both with the decision and the outcome (which was that I didn’t get the job and I’m not moving!)

Moleskin by Snowden:   What a great crowd out there today.   I can’t take credit for this.  These guys come out and work out all the time, but I was very happy to see so many of them out there today.  Also, big thanks to TKO for feeling compelled to gather the PAX up and do a second prayer over me as I face some decisions in my life in the coming months.  That meant a lot to me.

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.
Introduction: YHC got a chance to redeem himself with a redemption Q and approaches the winkie with a single focus of a grinding PT session. It was kinda refreshing to do a no frills boot camp that just required work and going until there was no more go.

THE BURPEE CHALLENGE: start with 1 min on the clock-start with 7 burpees. with 1st minute is over, do 8 burpees, when that minute is over, do 9 burpees so on and so forth. As PAX dropped out that is how they got their partners for the Thang. Saget won this one and YHC conceded (only got second because burpee machines BCG and TKO were not there!)

Now the PAX are ready to get to the Thang! PAX were instructed to mosey to block pile, grab a block, and mosey over to field. Leave blocks near outside cones.

The Thang:
The starfish and it goes like this: Five cones, one in the middle, and the other four approx. 25 meters from center cone in a square. All PAX started in the middle at the center cone and were given instructions: The middle cone starts with one merkin, and PAX had choice on which cone to go to next, which included blockees, squats with a block, 4 count flutter kicks with block, and Carolina dry docks (shmerkins). Whatever cone PAX went to after middle cone was 2; ex. 2 blockees. go back to middle cone for 3 merkins and so on until merkins in the middle equaled 25. PAX had to bear crawl from the merkins to the outer cones; however, they were able to run back to the merkins.

Name FNG: Betty Ford

Devo: Do something fun with your wives! YHC explained how men’s hike helped him to refresh and recharge love for wife and how their time was mostly spent doing things that pleased him. YHC made it a point to step way outside comfort zone and allow wife to pick anything for date night and not ask any questions or groan about it. YHC’s wife chose Velocity Airsports (trampolines) for date night and it was awesome. YHC told PAX how happy his wife was and the joy in her eyes just was unbelievable and YHC was almost brought to tears because that joy hasn’t been seen in a long time.  YHC talked about doing stuff with your wife like that is so valuable and important to your relationship and you grow by getting uncomfortable and doing things for others.

Ephesians 5:25 and 5:28- Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife, loves himself.

Moleskin: SO…how did Betty Ford get his name? There was a ton of mumble chatter on FB concerning just how the FNG got his name. Here’s the scoop: When he was brought out to the middle of the COT, FNG would not divulge any information about what he didn’t like because he was told ahead of time the process. Then someone who knew FNG stated he did not like Fords so there’s where the fire got lit. Snowden went immediately to Gerald, which Humpday thought was hilarious, and then Humpday asked, “wait, what’s Gerald ford’s wife’s name?” Betty Ford was mentioned and there you have it. Betty ford stuck and all the PAX were in agreement. I’m pretty sure Snowden also suggested Carl as well as some other former political figure whose name escapes me. This was a fun naming experience for sure. Welcome Betty Ford

Welcome FNG Scab.   Phillip Griffin knows Cannoli.  He was inspired to come out after seeing all the craziness of the f3 teams out at the Palmetto 200 this weekend.  The naming ceremony started going off in a Family guy direction, we thought about Quagmire, but we’re pretty sure we already have one of those.  Someone asked about his work.  He mentioned he’s a crane operator down at the ship yard.  Someone asked if he was union.  He said “no”.   So he became “scab”.  Sorry folks…. nothing more interesting than that… He doesn’t actually have leprosy.  Welcome Mr. Scab!

YHC thought this morning would be a good time to clean up the AO and remove all the broken coupons and organize coupons, as the AO was going to get some extra coupons later today due to the cage needing to be cleaned up. So the “work” part of this workout involved aforementioned cleaning. It went WAY faster than YHC had planned, so the play portion of the workout was amended.

The Thang:
Get to the tennis courts for some impromptu elevens. PAX were instructed to line up on the sideline and start with 10 squats, run to the opposite sideline and 1 burpee, ending with 1 squat and 10 burpees. fun

The “play” portion of the workout involved a few songs that YHC thought were excellent choices for working out. the following songs were chosen:

Song 1- Bodies by Drowning Pool- PAX held plank until “bodies” then PAX performed donkey kicks. PAX then continued plank until 1,2,3,4 was said doing merkins on the number, back to plank until “bodies” was said again and rinse and repeat until song is over…

Song 2-Flower by Moby (bring sally up, bring sally down) Squats on bring sally down, hold until bring sally up, rinse and repeat until song is over…

Song 3- Tubthumping by Chumbawumba- SSH until “I get knocked down” then burpees, rinse and repeat until end of song…

Song 4-Thunderstruck by AC/DC-Flutter kicks until “thunder” then Freddie Mercury’s, rinse and repeat…

Song 5-Roxanne by The Police- Monkey Humpers on “Roxanne” and pickle pounders on “red light”, rinse and repeat until end of song, but we had to modify to plank to pickle pounders, as we discovered the transition at the end of the song was too much…

Devo:

YHC talked about importance of prayer, intentional prayer, that serves a purpose other than checking a box. YHC talked about series at Journey Church about prayer and made points about prayer being a part of the relationship with God. Praying for F3 brothers in the BOM as well as at home is important. Don’t expect any relationship to prosper without time spent with each other.

As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. 21And Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” 22And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. 23Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have receivedc it, and it will be yours. 25And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
